The metacognition refers to the cognition and recognition of one’s own cognizing activity, the core of which is self-regulaton. Problem-solving is a staple component in students’cognitive process. There have been a lot of psychological studies that show metacognitive ability and problem-solving has close relationship with each other. Developing cognitive ability can improve the quality and efficiency of problem-solving. In order to study the specific circumstances of senior high school students’ability to utilize metacognition, this paper designed a series of questionnaires to measure students’ metacognitive lever and motivation factors in the process of problem solving. After the compilation of questionnaires, we assess the reliability and validity of questionnaires. According to the sudies of the questionnaires, this research found that students’ metacognitive level in chemistry problem solving process presented normal distribution and the metacognitive ability is at similar level for boys and girls. Through correlation analysis, this study found that metacognitive ability is significantly associated with motivation factors such as task value, achievement goal and self-efficacy. The conclusion of this study provided confirmation of work done previously by other researchers.
