It is nearly one hundred years since the first Ed.D. degree establishment. Theeducation doctorate’s murky beginnings at Harvard College in1921ensured a longstruggle to gain legitimacy as a professional degree. After years of development, thecultivation of Education Doctorate in America is becoming increasing mature, butdoubts about Ed.D. never stops. The lack of consensus and clarity has resulted in theEd.D. being referred to as a Ph.D-lite. In response to the questions about Ed.D.,making it its mission to continue the vitality of Ed.D, The Carnegie Project on theEducation Doctorate (CPED) was launched as an important reform of professionaldoctorate area. And it has made positive results in a short span of seven years. Withthe development of education undertakings in our country, Ed.D. emerged under thevigorously demand for high-level professionals in education field. Ed.D. is relativelylate in our country. Although it has made certain achievement, there are stillinsufficient exist. Given all this, keeping track of the latest development for Ed.D. inother countries is necessary. Recently, there is little domestic research about Ed.D.,while the study about Carnegie Project on the Education is rarity of rarities. Thisarticle makes an in-depth study of The Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate(CPED) in order to offer some reference for the development of Ed.D. in our country.And studying this can help us make the Ed.D. work even better and more smoothly bysummarizing the regularity of Ed.D. education in America.This dissertation is mainly using the literature method, case law and comparativelaw. The paper conducts a systematic collection and collation of relevant literature onThe Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED). On the basis of theintroduction of the history and current situation on Ed.D. in America, the authorexplores in great depth The Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED).Selecting the University of Southern California which is one of the group members inThe Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) as the main research object,the author analyzes the characteristic of Ed.D. cultivation in America throughstudying the cultivation of Ed.D. in University of Southern California. The dissertation consists of five chapters. Chapter one is introduction section; Chapter twodetails the history of professional doctorate in education in America; Chapter threestates the cause and content framework of The Carnegie Project on the EducationDoctorate (CPED); In chapter four, taking the University of Southern California’sRossier School of Education as a case, the author do research into Ed.D education. Inchapter five, analyzing The Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED), theauthor make some suggestions to the future Ed.D development in our country.
