Geography experimental ability is a basic in the ability system for normal university students specialized in Geography. Geography experiment class plays an important role in affecting the normal university students’geography experimental ability. Currently, normal universities commonly adopt a three-stage progressive training mode-imitating, transforming and designing of experiments. But on the whole, the study of geography experiment teaching is not thorough enough. Research on the cultivation of normal college students’ geography experimental ability by using middle school geography experiment curriculum can hardly be found.Combined with literature research method and teaching practice, the present study establishes the status of the geography experimental ability system for normal university students, which can be divided into general and special abilities depending on the different fields of activities that the abilities are connected with. Meanwhile, action research method is adopted. Through the observation of Middle School Geography Experiment class in School of Resource Environment and Tourism in Capital Normal University, this study reviews and summarizes the specific procedures that are used to strengthen the normal university students’geography experimental ability. In addition, at the end of this course, questionnaires are used to find out the students’understanding of the change of their experimental abilities as well as their comments of the course.The present study shows that the geography experimental ability system serves as an important reference for the cultivation and strengthening of normal university students’ geography experimental ability. Besides, Middle School Geography Experiment Curriculum is basically practical and proves to be a major method to strengthen normal university students’ geography experimental ability. The curriculum also emphasizes the strengthening of students’ thinking ability, designing ability and operating ability. Therefore, this study argues that the design of classes in Geography Department in normal universities needs to adjust and optimize the teaching methods and contents according to the students’characteristics, focusing on improving the students’special abilities to meet the needs for geography education reform in normal universities as well as the development of the students.
