| Chinese teaching and learning is approving to a new stage because of the boosting Chinese economy. The Education Departments of other countries are promoting Chinese as one of subjects in their formal examination system. The students have engaged Chinese language and culture learning more than ever before.This thesis offered a detailed introduction and explored Chinese as a subject of Victoria Certificate Examination(VCE) in Australia. Since Victoria Certificate Examination(VCE) is well recognized in global examination, this paper means to present and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of this language evaluation system, including Chinese curriculum and examination itself.This thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter is preface, which introduces the background, significance, objects and methods of the research. As for the second chapter, it mainly refer to the fruits of research both home and abroad in terms of VCE Chinese. The third chapter is the overall introduction of Chinese and other foreign languages as subjects in various states of Australia. The fourth chapter fucuses on the complicated constitute of students, the aim of VCE Chinese examination, the curriculum supervised by Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority. In addition, the main features of VCE Chinese are analyzed at the end of this chapter. The fifth chapter includes four aspects which is content and standard of VCE Chinese, Chinese examination reports from Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, the survey refers to learning and teaching strategies towards Chinese VCE and some suggestions for teachers to deal with the obstacles which reveal from VCE students, referring to speaking, listening, reading and writing. The last chapter mainly summarizes the whole thesis as a conclusion. |
