As an multi-cultural country, Australian education policies are formulated in accordance with the features of cultural diversity. Especially in the second language education, the department of education (DoE) offered the strong policy and economic support. With China’s ever-growing economy, in recent years, Sino-Australian economic and trade cooperation occurs much more frequently. As a major power in Asia-Pacific region and an important cooperative partner to China, the DoE of Australia attached great importance to teaching Chinese as an second language, more and more schools are starting-up Chinese class, and it is also catered to Chinese language promotion interest. But because of the obvious differences between eastern and western languages, the students have lost the confidence, and even had a fear psychology.Therefore, it is vital important to improve the traditional methods of Chinese teaching in Australian language class and to pay more attention to the students’ interest in Chinese learning, it means an updating requirement for interesting and scientific contents of Chinese language class.This article elaborates the necessity of interest-oriented teaching in Chinese class through introduction of the "affective filter hypothesis", the characteristics of the middle-school students’(12-14 years old) psychological development and an objective survey. Besides, this article also exemplifies how to apply these interest-oriented teaching methods in different situation with clear teaching objectives by providing a plenty of authentic teaching cases in Victoria. It is significant to Chinese language teaching of middle school in Victoria and primary Chinese class in overseas countries.
