With the continuous development of higher education in recent years, an increasingnumber of college graduates pour into the society. Meanwhile, the world financialenvironment has been in a low level and brings a financial crisis to the world. These negativefactors brought an unprecedented crisis to the current university graduates. In order to solvethe employment problem of the graduate university students, and add new vitality to socialeconomic development, the Chinese government put forward the "Entrepreneurship PromoteEmployment" slogan, and developed relevant policies to encourage entrepreneurship. Thegovernment and university have established different sizes and levels of entrepreneurshipzones thus provide good business atmosphere for graduate youth students. In order to solvethe employment problem of university students, as well as to further promote the healthydevelopment of the society and economic, the government called for and support studentsstart businesses.Judging from the current situation of the society and economics, entrepreneurial activityhave received more and more attention in both developing and developed countries, it alsobecome the driving force of economic growth. This phenomenon not only has great effect inthe economic field, but also contributed to the entrepreneurship research in theory field. Thispaper summarizes and analysis the sources and type of entrepreneurial opportunities, thedefinition of entrepreneurial opportunity recognition process, and the relevant factors affectthe process. Based on these theories, we use a multi-case study method to explain theprocess, we conducted depth interviews and research in six new ventures, including fourstudents venture companies and two general entrepreneurial enterprises. Based on previousstudies and multi-case analysis, this paper discusses the entrepreneurial opportunities source,type, and entrepreneurial opportunity recognition process, influencing factors in a systemperspective. Give a comparative analysis of the entrepreneurial opportunities source, type,and entrepreneurial opportunity recognition process, influencing factors between generalentrepreneurs and college students. The research conclusions just as follows:(1) Entrepreneurial opportunities can be created based on the existing resources, alsocan created through the change of policy; it may also emerged according to the relationshipof market supply and demand, but the entrepreneurs need to discovered the exist opportunity.Based on these, the entrepreneurial opportunities can be divided into three sources: theopportunities from the market demand, the opportunities offered by technological change, the opportunities from changes in policy and other macro-environment.(2) Entrepreneurial opportunities can be an imitation or moderate improvement for theexisting products/services, materials or even the organization form. Also it can be a majorimprovements or completely innovative to a product/service, materials and the organizationform. According to this features, entrepreneurial opportunities can be divided into explicitand implicit opportunities.(3) Opportunity recognition as a key part in the entrepreneurial process, summarize thecurrent researches in entrepreneurial opportunity recognition process, the opportunityrecognition process can be divided into three stages: opportunity search, opportunitydiscovery and opportunity evaluation. Based on the horizontal comparison between fourstudents and two general entrepreneurial start-ups, this paper found that studententrepreneurs and general entrepreneurs are similar in the opportunity recognition process,there is no obvious distinction.(4) Through the research, this paper found that for the factors affect the entrepreneurialopportunity recognition process, student entrepreneurs and general entrepreneurs show somesimilarities, but at the same time, there are also some differences. The different factors thataffect the entrepreneurial opportunity recognition process mainly because of their differentgrowth environment. The main different factors between student entrepreneurs and generalentrepreneurs are mainly manifested by entrepreneur traits, personality characteristics, priorknowledge, human capital, entrepreneurship network relationships and the governmentpolicy.Through an analysis between four student ventures and two general entrepreneurshipfirms, and a comparison of this paper’s conclusions with the general entrepreneurshipresearch, we strip out the impact factors that affect the student opportunity recognitionprocess. We aim to provide guidance and advice for students who want to or just building acompany, help them solve different problems they may encounter during the process.
