This paper is based on macroeconomics, microeconomics, consumer economics,econometrics, the theory of input-output analysis and the results of others’study. The AIDSmodel (Almost Ideal Demand System Model) is used to study China’s urban and ruralresidents’ consumption behavior and consumption structure. Combined with theeconometric model and the input-output model, the paper forecasts the variation tendencyof China’s urban and rural residents’consumption behavior and consumption structure, andanalyses the production structure under the influence of consumption structure. Based onthe conclusion above, the paper recommends practical solutions for it.This paper consists of four parts. Part one, introduced the significance of the subjectand the research background. The second part details the use of AIDS and the relatedmodels to illustrate the paper, analyses the characteristics of residents’ consumptionbehavior and consumption structure and the difference and similarities of China’s urbanand rural consumption structure. The third section combines with the econometric modeland the input-output model to study the influence of consumption structure on theproduction structure during the last20years, and to forecast the tendency of changes ofproduction structure based on the doubled income target which was put forward on TheTwelfth Five-Year Plan and the report to the18thNational Congress of CPC. Part Four, thestudy’s main conclusions and future research directions.
