Research On The Transformation And Upgrading Of Commodity Structure Of China’s Trade In Services

Since international trade in services becomes a new issue of “Uruguay Round”, it has becomean important indicator of a country’s economic development level and the trade competitivenesswith its strong development momentum and huge economic benefits. In the context of regionaleconomic integration and globalization, a country’s competitiveness in the service sector andtrade in services, particularly those emerging knowledge, technology and capital-intensiveservices decides whether a country can stand firmly in international competitions. Now Chinahas basically formed its services trade system. However, its rapid development in service traderelies on traditional low value-added labor and resource-intensive services, while the emerginghigh value-added knowledge, technology and capital-intensive services develop slowly.Therefore, it is urgent to restructure and adjust the commodity structure of service trade.Firstly this paper describes the backgrounds and significance of studying trade in services, andreviews studies on the commodity structure of trade in services at home and abroad, includingthe theoretical study of the comparative advantages and competitiveness of commodity structureof trade in services and the study on its relationship with economic growth. Based on the abovestudies, this paper presents its research features and research methods.Secondly this paper defines trade in services and commodity structure of trade in services,summarizes the features of trade in services based on the development laws of international tradein services, understands the basic theories of trade in services by theoretical perspectives oftraditional trade and new trade, and classifies commodity structures of trade in services on thebasis of understanding the connotation of trade in services.Thirdly, by using a large number of detailed data and charts, on the basis of China’s servicetrade development for basic analysis, focusing on the situation of China’s service tradecommodity structure, through the longitudinal comparison of the development history of China’strade in services, and horizontal comparison with the developed and developing countries, usingthe export market share, revealed comparative advantage (RCA) index and trade competitivenessindex (TC) of trade in services, it analyzes the competitiveness of commodity structure ofChina’s service trade in the world, discusses the necessity of changing the commodity structure,and therefore summarizes the overall situation of the commodity structure of China’s trade in services.Finally, based on the analysis result of the previous parts, this paper presents that thecommodity structure of China’s trade in services should take optimizing traditional trade inservices and modern services as its goal of transformation and upgrading, and summarizes thefollowing countermeasures and suggestions: to promote the transformation and upgrading of thecommodity structure of China’s trade in services under the support of modern service industry;to build regional highlands of the transformation and upgrading of the commodity structure ofChina’s trade in services; to create our own brands on the basis of independent innovation;vigorously undertake international service outsourcing; introduction of services to cultivatetalents with international competitiveness; to creation of China’s service trade commoditystructure transformation and upgrading software environment.
