World Heritage is the crystallization created by human culture and nature. It represents themost valuable cultural landscapes and natural landscapes. As the international tourist resort witha world-wide tourist market, World Heritage is being given more and more attention by scholars,media and the public. Because of the restriction from basic national conditions of our country,the protection and exploitation of heritage sites still need to be improved, the managementsystem and mode need to achieve an advanced class in the world. How to balance heritagetourism and ecological environment preservation is a significant subject of sustainabledevelopment of heritage sites. Hence, it is important to have an objective understanding of thelevel of sustainable development of heritage sites in China.The dissertation reviews literatures on sustainable development of heritage sites incombination with the research results both in China and abroad. In consideration of the specificsituations of Jiuzhaigou and the principles of establishing an indicator system, the dissertationselects four sorts (tourist economies and ability in market development, ability of environmentalprotection, heritage tourism resources, soft and hard environment of tourism) and28indicators(number of tourist reception of scenic spot, ticket revenues of scenic spot, foreign exchangeearnings of county, growth rate of tourist arrivals of scenic spot, growth rate of ticket revenues ofscenic spot, growth rate of foreign exchange earnings of county, level of scenic spot,development of tourism products, forest coverage of scenic spot, excellent and good rate ofatmospheric environmental quality of scenic spot, control rate of industrial soot emissions incounty, threat of natural disasters, degree of tourism resources, authenticity of heritage resources,scarcity of heritage resources, aggregation of heritage resources, scale and abundance of heritageresources, quality of tourism employees of scenic spot, percentage of managers who havebachelor degree or above of scenic spot, traffic accessibility, government input, scientificresearches, community satisfaction, number of star-rated hotels in county, level of food andbeverage facilities in county) to establish the evaluation indicator system of sustainabledevelopment of Jiuzhaigou. Then the dissertation establishes the nonlinear model in combinationwith Genetic Algorithm, Analytic Hierarchy Process and weighted method with generalizedcontrast to analyze the indicator system. Finally, the grades of sustainable capability ofJiuzhaigou can be worked out. The results show that “tourist economies and ability in market development” of Jiuzhaigouis level V, that means strong sustainable capability.“Ability of environmental protection” and“heritage tourism resources” are level IV, that means mediocre sustainable capability.“Soft andhard environment of tourism” is level III, that is weak sustainable capability. On the whole,Jiuzhaigou is in the transition period from mediocre sustainable capability to strong sustainablecapability.By analyzing concrete indicators, the dissertation gives some corresponding suggestions,such as continuously regulating and controlling environmental capacity, optimizing structure ofheritage tourism products, improving the traffic accessibility and infrastructure construction,accelerating cultivation and collection of tourism talents, strengthening cooperation of heritagesites and realizing coordinated development, developing low-carbon tourism and so on.In the end, research results and short comings in the present study, future prospects arepresented in the conclusions and discussions. I hope the study could provide profits andreferences for the follow-up studies in the area of sustainable development of heritage tourism.
