In the steel enterprises, in order to facilitate the production management and quality management of the steel products, it’s necessary to mark the only number, which is comprised of the production batch, production time and other related parameters, on the surface of the steel billet, which could avoid the phenomenon of mixing billets. So the marking machine is one of the essential equipment in the steel industry. When the quality problems occur, it can find the problematic links timely, and solve the problems effectively. At present, there are following several methods for billet marking:pressure type, spraying type, electric erosion type, sculpture type, spray printing type, punch type, laser type and so on. Among them, the spray type is one of the widely used methods.This paper developed a marking machine for the small billet face, which is based on the needs of the manufacturer and the special using occasions. From the initially design of overall scheme, selection of different schemes, processing and assembling, to the finally completing of commissioning, the results show that the marking machine has fast marking speed, clear marking characters, high positioning accuracy, good working stability, convenient maintenance performance and so on, and it can satisfy the using requirement.According to the environmental conditions of the work site and the technical requirements of the manufacturer, the overall design scheme of the marking machine for small billet face is put forward. Then make a relevant analysis and comparison on the design schemes of important components of the marking machine, and choose the most reasonable design schemes. After the design schemes are determined, the paper makes the detailed designs and calculations for each modules. This equipment mainly consists of four module, which are writing mechanism, scraping Rust Mechanism, upper box and host of marking machine. Establish the 3D models of the whole equipment using Pro/E and draw the corresponding engineering drawings using AutoCAD, the key components are calculated and checked. After the mechanism design is finished, import the 3D models into the ANSYS, and make the static analysis when the machine in the most dangerous working conditions. Through the analysis of the stress and strain, proof the static reliability of the marking machine.Considering the important position of writing mechanism and its working process, it also makes a research and analysis on the dynamic characteristics after the static analysis, including the modal analysis and dynamics analysis. Establish the dynamic model of writing mechanism by using Pro/E Mechanism, and make the dynamic simulation analysis, obtain the dynamics characteristic curve of the spray head. Then make the modal analysis by using ANSYS, acquire natural frequency and vibration mode of the first 10 order. It provides theory basis about the control of servo motor and the optimization improvement of structure.
