Study On The Evaluation Of Vitality In Rural Public Space In South Of Jiangsu

As an important platform for public intercourse, public space not only carries therecreational needs of the public, but also plays an important role in promoting theconstruction of harmonious society and maintaining social stability. With the rapidtransformation of rural society in Southern Jiangsu, as the social and historicalconstruction since reform and opening, the traditional rural public space is rapidlydecline or even disappearing and faces the task of arduous reconstruction. However,with thoughts of stressing city and restraining rural in the long term the public space,the rural space, including the public space, is free to the study of urban planning, andresearch on the vitality of rural public space is rarely involved. The lack of the studyon the rural public space is in stark contrast with the practice of the current ruralplanning and construction like a raging fire. In this context, research in the vitality ofrural public space as the core issue has a certain theoretical significance.On the basis of the review of progress on the rural public space study in ruralsociology, rural political science, urban and rural planning, this article uses thequalitative analysis of factors affecting the vitality of rural public space as a startingpoint. According to theory about the mutual construction of social and spatial andrelationship between human and land, this article try to construct the vitalityevaluation system from two aspects including about users and space based on thescientific, operational principles. And then select three villages——Houbu Village,Houzhuang Village and Nongchuang Village, which represent the three typical type ofvillage in southern region——ancient villages, traditional villages and the new ruralcommunity. It carries out a long time on the actual research to obtain the first-handinformation. Based on this, the article makes the quantitative comparison upon thedifferent types of public space, rural vitality of public space in the same category ofaccording to the evaluation system. This paper analyzes the reasons of the differenceamong the different types of public space in Southern Jiangsu. Finally, this article putforward some strategies to enhance the vitality of public space in Southern Jiangsu.
