Exploration Of BIM Application In Architectural Design Phase

Since the year of2002, the values of Building Information Modeling in theaspect of construction have been widely recognized, more and more countries thenbegun to apply BIM in construction practice. The research of BIM in our countrystarted in2003. Along with some successful practice cases, wealth of practicalexperience has been accumulated, while at the same time many problems wereexposed during the process of practice. Compared to the whole life cycle of a building,the phase of architectural design is just a very short time, but it affects the mostfar-reaching.Throughout the entire construction project, although the costs in the design stageonly take up about2to5%of the total investment, its influence is more than75%ofthe construction project. This is because the information of the entire constructionproject mostly generated in design stage, the quality of design not only affects theconstruction but also affects the use of the building. Therefore, the key advantage ofBIM is to apply it in the design phase.This paper mainly focuses on four parts of the application of BIM in thearchitectural design phase: the first part briefly summarizes the concept of buildinginformation model and its development process, research actuality, and the relatedsoftware the second part analysis the influence of BIM on traditional architecturaldesign from three perspectives: the process of architectural design, design methods,and spatial thinking mode; third part focuses on the method and process of BIMapplication in every stage of the design phase; the forth part is a detail analysis of thereason that hinders the development of BIM application in our country, and the mainapplication strategy for architectural design enterprise.The purpose of this paper is to inspire more criticism and thinking fromarchitects, to promote the architects ’ understanding of BIM application in designphase, to speed up the promotion of BIM application, and to promote the informationtechnology using in construction industry in our country.
