Weaving The Urban Fabric In The Old Town Renewal Analysis

Old town renewal is a growing social phenomenon as the importance of old town has been widely realized during the past years. Finding a proper way to introduce new architecture, a must-solve problem, leading to considerable discussion. Urban fabric weaving has been regarded as one of the effective methods. Using FangQiao old street as an example, methods of urban texture weaving will be discussed in this dissertation, from texture analysis in macro scale to individual architecture design in micro scale.This dissertation starts with a study of twelve international precedence, which leads to two methods of fabric weaving as a conclusion, namely weaving with original as reference and with other districts as reference. Each method has its own application. Secondly, the analysis focuses on FangQiao old street by studying its characteristics on both neighborhood and architectural level and proposing basic prototype and organization method. This part is followed by an assessment of weaving-needed district and decision of weaving method. Based on all the previous information, one section is chosen as the site for individual architectural design. Architectural design follows the instruction of weaving logic and limitation. New design will still use original prototype with proper improvement of organization for varied space. The final design is a modern architecture, with splendid space experiences. The new building will be a perfect fit for contemporary function and also maintain the old street scale and reference lines.The whole thesis contains about 11067 words,66 pictures and charts.
