With the wide use of the electronic technology, the computer technology and the network technology on ships, the process of ship automation development is promoted to a new level. At the same time, it also opens up new research topics of the intelligent ship. The current situation of the development is analyzed first. The main engine remote control system is developing currently in the direction of network, modular, distributed. Then propose the embedded design based on Ethernet and CAN two-stage network. The design achieves the real-time transmission of field data, and meet to easy networking needs. Meanwhile, the uninterruptible power supply module is designed which meets the requirements of China Classification Society. With the power supply module, the 24V emergency power can supply power for the system automatically when the main switch board comes into failure.The system is divided into three layers followed by monitoring layer, gateway layer and network layer. The design of the main engine remote control system is achieved according to the three-architecture.The monitoring layer is consist of intelligent distributed DI, DO, AI, AO, and speed picking module which are used to complete the data collection of digital, analog, and speed pulse signal and control the actuators. All the I/O modules use the STM32 microprocessor based on ARM CortexTM-M3 core and realize full dual redundant CAN communication.Gateway is used for connecting monitoring layer and network layer, and achieve the conversion of CAN to Ethernet. The hardware design is based on W7100A network microprocessor and CAN controller SJA1000. Analyze the W7100A timer hardware and the KEIL development environment requirements for code design, and the μC/OS-Ⅱ embedded operating system is successfully transplanted to the W7100A to improve the real-time performance. Propose the dual redundant Ethernet design. The RS485 communication interface is reserved for the data exchange between monitoring and alarm systems.Build the development environment of Windows xp+VMware8.0+Ubuntu12.04 on the PC. Analysis the ARM11 hardware platform, and build the Qt application operating environment based on Linux+Qt. Finally develop the graphical control software, and achieve the function of the control position switching, logic control, speed and load control function, limit function and safety protection function.The remote control system based on embedded system has advantages of low cost, high reliability, flexibility and has friendly interface and it is easy to realize modular and networking of distributed control system. Furthermore, it is so meaningful to the development of main engine remote control system.
