China is entering an aging society rapidly, which made the issue of the pension security of the old more highlighted. The rural elderly endowment becomes an unavoidable problem during the process of Socialist New Countryside Construction. How can we provide for the aged? What kind of pension mode is suitable for the old? What kind of pension space is needed by the old? All these are must-thinking for solving the pension problems of rural areas.An old concept is that "Fostering Children to Defend Aged".But with the development of the society,children in rural areas spend long time working in town leads to the absence of the subject of family endowment, which makes the "Remained Elderly" and "Empty Nester" phenomenon appear. By analyzing the living conditions of the old in rural areas, the author found that loneliness, helplessness and inaction become three major problems among the rural elderly.This thesis aims at the rural pension problems during the process of Socialist New Countryside Construction, conducting a research on space design of rural pension by setting up mutual community. It is based on the theory of environmental psychology as well as illustrated by a conceptual design of Zhangze mutual endowment community in Changzhi, Shanxi. Meanwhile, from the perspectives of the aged characteristics, rural environment characteristics, space build and mutual aid strategy, etc to build the mutual pension space which is suitable for the old. The author puts forward the comprehensive design methods and management strategies of rural mutual endowment community which offers an emotional, friendly and functional community to the old in order to make the old feel dependable, helpful and valuable, which let the joy and happiness fill with their twilight life.
