With the growth of hugeness and complexion in modern ship, outfitting process has evolved a comprehensive system engineering. As a key point during the outfitting process, outfit assembly planning links outfit design and outfit manufacturing, which plays an important role in the assembly quality and efficiency of outfitting process. However, outfit assembly planning is always completed by the engineers according to their specialized knowledge and experiences contemporarily, because of lacking efficient digital verification tools, which limits the innovation and transformation to some extent.As an example of information technology applied in the ship building industry, virtual assembly technology provides an effective solution to solve the problem of outfit assembly planning. With the help of virtual assembly technology, the engineers could simulate the whole assembly process of outfits in the virtual environment and plan for a reasonable and practicable assembly program. So it has a great guiding significance to further study the outfit assembly planning in the virtual environment, such as increasing the assembly level of outfitting process, reducing the cost of construction, improving the working environment of workers, promoting the upgrade of outfitting process. This paper takes regional unit pre-outfitting process in the bottom of a tanker’s engine room as the research object, the main study content and method of this paper is as follows:(1) This paper introduces the outfitting process comprehensively which includes illustrating the content and type of outfitting process, elaborating the construction process about regional outfitting process in the modern shipbuilding mode, analyzing the character and method of the outfit assembly process in the bottom of a tanker’s engine room area.(2) According to analyze the character of child assembly model of virtual assembly technology, this paper introduces how to use DELMIA_DPM to set up the virtual assembly environment based on the completion of outfits and hull of modeling with CATIA.(3) Based on the genetic algorithm, this paper introduces a way to design the lifting sequence of outfit units which proves that the method could figure out the optimal lifting sequence among the interacted processes, such as the assembly coherence between the outfit units, the shortest lifting path and the effective rate of key resources.(4) By using DELMIA_DPM, the paper simulates the whole lifting process of outfit units. During the simulation process DELMIA_DPM could formulate a reasonable lifting routes and assembly plan by interference checking based on bounding box method and mechanical tolerance principle.(5) The whole assembly operation of workers are analyzed by ergonomics technology during the simulation process based on DELMIA_DPM virtual environment. At last, fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method is used to assess the assemblability of the outfits from the perspective of ergonomics technology.
