Research On Economic Cooperation Between Russia And ASEAN Countries

After the Cold War, Russia has gone from "One-sided" to "Double Eagle" foreign policy change, eventually forming a "Comprehensive" diplomatic strategy currently both concern East and West, and increasingly emphasis on economic cooperation with the Asia-Pacific region. At the same time, as an important international organization in Asia Pacific, the regional cooperation of ASEAN has improved, and its regional influence is continuously growing, significantly improved its international status. In order to restore the influence in the Asia-Pacific region and reshape the image of a big country, Russia pay more and more attention to the regional organization-ASEAN, and the economic cooperation with ASEAN countries continue to get closer, which has injected an important factor of big country for the Southeast Asian region. This article will do a research through the history, current situation and problems of the economic cooperation between Russia and ASEAN countries, exploring its possible impact on China to develop appropriate strategies for China’s foreign policy and provide a reference to promote mutual cooperation between China, Russia and ASEAN countries, achieve a harmony development and win-win situation.Firstly, this paper reviews the economic cooperation between Russia and ASEAN countries in the energy, military, nuclear, science and technology. Secondly, analysis the motivation of the rapid development between them from politics and economy sides. Then analysis the existing problems of the Russian economic cooperation with ASEAN countries from three areas of economic cooperation, trade, investment, and explores the factors affecting bilateral economic cooperation. Finally, takes a outlook at the prospect of the economic cooperation between Russia and ASEAN countries, analyzes the impact of the rapid development of bilateral economic relations have brought to China, and put forward some countermeasures.This paper argues that, despite the economic cooperation between Russia and ASEAN countries exist many problems, restricted by a series of unfavorable factors, but in terms of regional economic cooperation, energy and arms trade, and investment in many fields, the momentum of economic cooperation is good. The rapid development of economic cooperation between Russia and ASEAN countries to China is both a challenge and an opportunity. China can take an active concern on the new progress of the economic cooperation between the two, and actively looking for effective cooperation among China, Russia and ASEAN countries, seeking tripartite mutual benefit and build a more peaceful and stable surrounding for China’s rise and long-term development environment.
