Today, "urbanization" is an important strategic direction for the development of Chinese cities, and urban form analysis and quality evaluation are the basic theoretical issues in the study of urbanization. Urban forms have an mutual restraint and mutual influence relationships with political, economic and social factors. Urbanization quality evaluation can provide theory support for the city space form to further expand. This paper uses RS and GIS technology to analyze the changes ofurban forms of main cities in Zhejiang province in past 20 years,evaluate the quality of their urbanization.The research results provide a scientific reference for the planning and management of urbanization in Zhejiang province.The main work of this paper are as follows:Firstly, the built-up areas information is extracted of the main city in Zhejiang province.In order to eliminate the effect of atmospheric,the paper uses the FLAASH atmospheric correction module of ENVI 5.0 software to make correction about each city remote sensing images in 1993,2003 and 2014.Based on image in 2014 as a reference, the paper corrects the image in 1993 and 2003 with ENVI5.0 geometric correction module through the cubic convolution re-sampling by selecting the 15 road intersection, river interchange and obvious features of the object as a control point.Then the paper calculates SAVI-DNBI index of geometric correction image. A method of vectorization for remote sensing image built-up area of Zhejiang province is used by the layer in the ArcCatlog of urban planning maps, historical maps and Google Earth images.Finally, this paper extracts information from built-up area in each year.Secondly, this paper studies the main urban form of Zhejiang province. In this paper, we use the ArcGIS9.3 software tools to get the information of the geometric shape of the city’s built-up area, and calculate the shape index of the built-up area in Excel.After obtaining the area perimeter information municipalities in ArcGIS9.3 software and calculating the built area shape compactness, fractal dimension and analyzing the shape index and compactness by Excel, the paper computes the correlation coefficient by the SPSS.The results represent the situation which extended municipalities could be reflected by expansion of the intensity and the rate of expansion. After drawing convex hull of the cities in 1993 and 2003 in ArcGIS9.3, the paper calculates the city inward and outward expansion of the area, which will determine cities belong to a type of expansion at different stages.This paper analyzes the main expansion driving factors of main cities in Zhejiang. Due to some restrictions, such as heavy workload, this paper selects the Quzhou city and Ningbo city as study cases. After processing by the software,the paper gets the jurisdiction scope of DEM data in Quzhou city and Ningbo city. After grading fill in DEM data, the paper analyzes the influence of terrain on urban expansion in a qualitative way. According to the establishment of index system,the paper quantitatively studies the correlation between social economic factors and urban area by Grey correlation method.Finally, the paper provides a theoretical support for further expand of urban space forms in Zhejiang from the perspective of quality evaluation of urbanization. According to 23 factors of social, economic, demographic and environmental, the paper establishes an evaluation system based on entropy method,evaluates the quality of different cities and puts forward relevant suggestions.
