Lilium lancifolium is one species of Lilium spp. It is one of the three crude drug bulbs Lilium that expressly stipulated by Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Lilium lancifolium, which is a type of natural triploid, has a good adaptability on the ecological environment. It spreads widly throughout the country from the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau to Changbai Mountain area. Its growing environment is so greatly different with each other that the environmental factors may have great influence on the content of functional component in bulbs of Lilium lancifolium. Therefore, the active components’ content and anti-oxidationabilities in bulbs of Lilium lancifolium from 15 populations with different growing locations were detected. Futhermore, the inhibiting ability to A549 lung cancer cell in vitro had been researched. In this study, the content of 5 active components(total polyphenols, total flavonoids, total flavanols, total saponins and total alkaloids) as well as 4 anti-oxidation abilities(ABTS+? scavenging activity, DPPH scavenging activity, superoxide reducing power and cupricion reducing ability) was tested on 15 Lilium lancifolium Thunb populations, to reveal the differences of the antioxidant properties among these populations. Further the cause of this disparity was explained with ecological factors. In addition, the growth inhibition of A549 lung cancer cell had been explored with 5 kinds of extract(water extraction, alcohol extraction, alkaloids extraction, saponins extraction, polysaccharide extraction) from Lilium lancifolium Thunb. bulbs. The results and conclusion were as follows:(1) It has a high level active ingredient content and antioxidant capacity of Lilium lancifolium Thunb. Therefore, it may be useful to exploit the functionality foodstuff. The average content of total polyphenols(19262.96mg/kg), total flavonoids(3118.89 mg/kg), total flavanols(1114.60mg/kg), total saponins(2808.30 mg/kg) and total alkaloids(1001.38 mg/kg) among the 15 Lilium lancifolium Thunb populations are 33 percent, 54 percent, 41 percent, 48 percent, 46 percent higher than that in bulbs of Lilium davidi var. unicdor cotton, respectively. The average ABTS+? scavenging activity(4 402.33 mg/kg), DPPH scavenging activity(2 645.46 mg/kg), cupricion reducing ability(2641.79 mg/kg)and superoxide reducing power clearance rate(53.46) in bulbs of 15 Lilium lancifolium Thunb populations are 75 percent, 76 percent, 35 percent, 88 percent higher than that in bulbs of Lilium davidi var unicdor cotton, respectively.(2) The results indicated that there are notable differences of the 5 active components’ content and 4 anti-oxidation abilities among different populations. The highest level shown in the 5 components’ content test was 32 percent(total polyphenols), 29 percent(total flavonoids), 22 percent(total flavanols), 34 percent(total saponins) and 36 percent(total alkaloids) higher than the average level. Among all the populations, Lhasa population(Tibet, China) possessed the greatest oxidation resistance capacity, whose 4 anti-oxidation abilities(ABTS+? scavenging activity, DPPH scavenging activity, superoxide reducing power and cupricion reducing ability) were 70 percent, 25 percent, 17 percent and 19 percent higher than the average level, respectively. The mean value of the total anti-oxidation components of the 15 populations reached 11757.23mg/kg, which was 1.62 times as much as Lilium davidi var unicdor cotton.(3) Temperature and elevation are closely related to the active component content in bulbs of Lilium lancifolium Thunb. In this study, temperature: mean annual temperature presents a very significantly negative correlation with total phenols content(with a correlation coefficient of-0.667) and total flavonoids content(with a correlation coefficient of-0.709)in bulbs of Lilium lancifolium Thunb. The effective accumulated temperature of greater than 5 degrees presents a significant negative correlation with total phenols content(with a correlation coefficient of-0.578)and total flavonoids content(with a correlation coefficient of-0.608)in bulbs of Lilium lancifolium Thunb. While, the elevation shows a significant positive correlation with total phenols content(with a correlation coefficient of 0.805), total flavonoids content(with a correlation coefficient of 0.714)and total alkaloids content(with a correlation coefficient of 0.518) in bulbs of Lilium lancifolium Thunb.(4) Five active components and four antioxidation abilities in bulbs of Lilium lancifolium Thunb has a varying degrees correlation with each other. In this study, the contribution of five active components to the antioxidant ability, from big to small, is total flavonoids, total phenols, total flavanols, total saponins and total alkaloids, respectively. Among five active components, total phenols, total flavonoids and total flavanols content show highly significant correlation with four antioxidation abilities. Meanwhile, total saponins content presents a significant correlation with ABTS+? scavenging activity and cupricion reducing ability. While, the correlation between total alkaloids content and four antioxidation abilities does not reach significant level.(5)The different extracting solutions from bulbs of Lilium lancifolium Thunb show a diversely inhibition ability to the human lung cancer cell of A549 in vitro. Among 5 extracting solutions: the water extraction and polysaccharide extraction show no noteworthy inhibiting ability. While, the ethyl alcohol extraction, alkaloids extraction and saponins extraction all show a significantly inhibiting ability. And the inhibition ratio shows concentration and time dependency.
