The thesis mainly discusses the theories of domestication and foreignization indealing with information loss in consecutive interpreting, combining with thepersonal interpretation practices. The two theories are widely applied in translationand interpretation practice. However, which interpreting strategy should be chosen ininterpretation is the problem long to be resolved. Due to the instantaneity ofinterpreting, it is nearly impossible to interpret exactly the same with the sourcelanguage in real time, which results in the typical problem—information loss.Currently, research about the consecutive interpretation is far from enough. Therefore, based on the personal Chinese-English and English-Chinese interpretingexperiences, the two theories are considered of great use to solve information loss inseveral typical cases and examples. Furthermore, it is important to find out the beststrategy to cope with the information loss under the guidance of domestication andforeignization, thus improving the quality of the practice on the whole. There are six parts in this paper, including four main chapters and introductionand conclusion. The first chapter will give a short but overall review about the paststudy related to the theme of this thesis; the second and third chapter focus on thetwo theories and information loss in consecutive interpretation respectively; at last, the fourth chapter will discuss some examples from the interpretation practices andoffer further suggestions for future training of interpreters.
