In recent years, with the development of friendship between China and Thailand,the two governments pay more and more attention on promotion and application ofChinese in Thailand."Chinese fever" is on the rise in Thailand! In spite of this, theeffect of Chinese study is still undesirable, the teaching quality in Thailand needs to beimproved. In Thailand, Chinese teaching is still teacher-centered. Students’ interest andenthusiasm in Chinese study gradually decline or even disappear. Therefore, the currenttask of Chinese teachers in Thailand first is to analyze the present situation of Chinesestudy among Thai students, understand the characteristics of the students, and explore ateaching method to stimulate students’ interest and enthusiasm, which helps to improvethe quality of Chinese teaching in Thailand.In second language teaching, task-based teaching and cooperative study are thetwo popular teaching methods among the teachers. This thesis tries to research the twomethods in TCFL by consulting the literature materials, classroom observation andquestionnaire survey combining with the characteristics of Thai students. The writerwould optimize task-based teaching and cooperative study to task-oriented cooperativestudy mode, apply to the oral Chinese teaching and explore a teaching method which isappropriated for Thai students in order to improve the quality of Chinese teaching inThailand.This thesis is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is introduction, which introduces the background of Chineseteaching in Thailand currently, task-based teaching and cooperative study researchsituation in China and abroad, the significance of this study, the content and thepurpose.The second chapter mainly interprets task-based language teaching and cooperativestudy and the characteristics of the two kinds of teaching methods through the literatureresearch. Then it gives the definition of task-oriented cooperative study mode andexplores the theoretical foundation of the new mode from the aspect of linguistics andsecond language acquisition.The third chapter optimizes two teaching methods, build task-oriented cooperativestudy mode, and explains the basic process of it in detail.The fourth chapter is to seek whether task-oriented cooperative study mode is appropriate for oral Chinese teaching in Thailand or not. The author took “ElementaryChinese”(II) as the experiment materials, selected two Senior Two classes as theexperimental class and the comparative class. The author applied task-orientedcooperative study mode in experimental class. In comparative class, the author appliedthe traditional grammar-translation method in oral Chinese teaching supplemented byquestionnaire survey, classroom observation, interview with teachers and students,performance testing, data collection and sorting. Through a semester of research, theauthor drew a conclusion that task-oriented cooperative study is beneficial to reduce theanxiety of the students in oral Chinese study. And it helped to improve students’ interestand enthusiasm in studying Chinese, what’s more, it also helped to form good studyatmosphere, significantly improved the students oral Chinese and cultivated thestudents’ sense of responsibility and team work.The fifth chapter puts forward the research conclusion and points out the advantageand disadvantage of task-oriented cooperative study mode which is integrated fromtask-based teaching and cooperative study and then tries to give suggestions for thosewho will study this field.
