Nowadays financial translation is common and all-pervading, as well as having agreat demand. Financial text contains some professional jargons for those who areengaged in financial sector, so it is difficult to translate because of its big vocabulary andprofessional jargons. Applying Nida’s “functional equivalence theory” for financialtranslation is helpful to deal with the translation difficulties. Nida puts forward withdynamic equivalence, which is also called functional equivalence. His theory is a greatcontribution to translation. The combination of functional equivalence and financialEnglish is helpful to financial translation.There are four parts in this report. Firstly, the problems and present situation infinancial translation are summarized, and a brief introduction of functional equivalence isgiven. Secondly, translation skills of financial translation in translation practice,including the methods of dealing with professional jargons’ translation and sentencesstructure are elaborated. The third part is the key of this report. Typical examples ofNida’s functional equivalence application are listed, that’s on lexical level, on sentencelevel and on context level. According to the translation text and readers of targetlanguage, paraphrases and addition are applied to achieve functional equivalence of“readers’ response”. Last but not least, a summary of this report is given in the end.Nowadays financial translation lacks theoretical guidance. The translation is hard to beunderstood by readers. The overall quality is not high in financial translation.
