Because of fierce competition among enterprises under globalization, manyforeign companies are eager to enter this huge Chinese market. In order to help localtourism enterprises expand their overseas market, the Commission on Tourism ofNevada gathered representatives from leading companies of Nevada as a delegationand come to Guangzhou to promote their tourism products. The author got the chanceto do interpreting for one of the representatives and found that using fuzzy languageappropriately may greatly contribute to fulfilling the communicational function oflanguage in promotion activities.Based on the practice conducted by the author who serves as an interpreter forthe representative to promote tourism products of Nevada, this report aims to analyzethe uses of fuzzy language in communication, including fuzzy words and hedges.The fuzziness of language will help the representative to reach the goal ofconversation with politeness. Through detailed analysis of the functions of fuzzylanguage and its applications in several cases, the author summarizes relevantinterpreting strategies to achieve the same effects of source language. The report startswith the description of the interpreting task and process, and then explores the fuzzylanguage in interpreting and its coping tactics with case analysis.Through carefully analysis of the applications of fuzzy language and discussedaccording interpreting strategies, the author hopes that this report may haveimplications for other interpreters, getting to know more about interpreting whenpromoting products, getting better interpreting performance and attaining moreachievement through business communication.
