An Empirical Study Of The Impact Of Cultural Industry On Economic Growth Of Shandong Province

With the development of information technology and the acceleration of economic globalization, the blending of culture and science and technology promotes the development of the culture industries. For the international competition, the cultural industry can enhance the comprehensive national strength and regional competitiveness as a soft power; for a society, the cultural industry can strengthen the social cohesion and change the mode of economic growth and promote the industries upgrading and increase the employment. Shandong Province has rich cultural resources, but how to realize the important role of cultural industries to regional economic development and make full use of it is the topic we need to study.Firstly, this paper defined the concept of cultural industries, that is the collection of providing cultural products and production activities to the public; what’s more, based on this concept, the cultural industry is divided into cultural manufacturing and cultural services; then the author analyzes the impact of cultural industry to economic development, the author think that cultural industries can increase GDP, increase employment, enhance human capital, improve labor productivity, optimize the economic system and industrial structure, and enhance the industry association.In order to make the theory more persuasive, this paper attempts to demonstrate from the empirical perspective. First of all, from the perspective of industry association, using the method of input-output, the author analyzes the impact of cultural industry to the economic development of Shandong province from four aspects including dependence, correlation effect, ripple effect and impact induced by production by calculating the index. The results show that, the cultural industry has close forward or backward relation of input-output with many industries, and its boost to the regional economy is stronger than the pulling effect. Secondly, from the perspective of time series, this paper uses cointegration test, Granger causality test, impulse response function to make an empirical description of the relationship between cultural industry and economic growth in Shandong province. The results show that, the Shandong province’s cultural industry investment has a positive and lasting effect on GDP, but the effect is limited, so there is still much room for the growth of the development of the cultural industry in Shandong Province.Finally, based on these studies, this paper raised many suggestions about making the development plan, improving the cultural industry consumption, imports, investments and strengthening professional training.
