Abstract:Vocabulary teaching is an important basis in the education of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, the intermediate stage is an important transition stage for Chinese learners at the primary stage to consolidate the words they have learned, to expand vocabulary, and to prepare for advanced stage to accurately use Chinese words to express and communication. A lot of words are abstract in intermediate stage and there are more synonyms and polysemy. It is not suitable for using the way of intuitive or translate to explaining the meaning of words. However, it is easier to help students understand the meaning and usage of words if put words in a specific context. According to my own teaching practice, I think that using the method of setting the context in vocabulary teaching not only help students understand the meaning and using the environment of words, but also convenient to memory words for students. it is an effective methods for vocabulary teaching. Combining with the instance in actual teaching, this paper discusses the function, principle and method of setting context in vocabulary teaching.
