This thesis presents a report composed on the basis of translation of the first chapter,“Five learners and five methods” and the third chapter “Some views of language andlanguage learning” of An Introduction to Foreign Language Learning and Teaching, written by Professor Keith Johnson. The two chapters provide the background informationand theory framework for the book and involve a number of linguistic terms, which is boththe key point and the difficult part in the translation process. In this view, the translation oflinguistic terms will be the major issue this report will address. The report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is about the projectdescription, including the content of the project and the general information about theoriginal text. The second chapter narrates the translation process which consists of threephases: preparation, translation and proofreading. Translation is completed by means ofstudying relevant materials and parallel texts, employing translation methods and constantrevision and refinement. The third chapter is the case analysis part which focuses on thetranslation of linguistic terms as it is the most prominent problem occurred. Throughreading relevant documents and intensive study, the translator summarizes the principles ofconventional rules, accuracy, scientificity, conciseness and readability are used in thetranslation of terms. The fourth chapter is the conclusion, which states the problems thatneed further solution and indicates valuable advice to improve translators’ capability.
