A Research Report On The Interactivity Between CATTI And MTI Training Programs

This study aims to investigate the interactivity between CATTI and MTI training programs. It analyzed the data taken from eight MTI students who are in their first or second year of the MTI education. The data includes the transcription of their interpreting and completed questionnaires, as well as the curriculum provision of the MTI training program of Nanjing Normal University. Methods of data collection include voice recording, questionnaires and reviews of the curriculum provision. Based on the theories and models of scholars and experts in this field, two predictions were made:first, with the current MTI training programs, the MTI students’performances could not reach all the requirements of CATTI L2(CI) before graduation; second, there are many things that MTI students and the universities could do to improve the students’performances in the test.Several findings were made after the experiment was done. First of all, the core of the interpretation test of CATTI L2(CI) is mainly aimed to examine the examinees’bilingual ability, non-linguistic knowledge and strategic capability, which are essential requirements of the requirement of the standard test. Second, the MTI students need enough practices and trainings during the two-year study to improve their interpreting abilities and reach the requirements of CATTI. Third, the MTI universities and schools should establish their curriculums in a more scientific way to enhance its professionalism, thus contributing to the improvement of the training of the MTI students.This study was designed and conducted by the author under the condition of lack of adequate references to previous studies. The findings would provide useful data for future research on related issues and would also offer suggestions for MTI students who are willing to take the CATTI test.
