Chinese zither is an ethical instrument with a history of more than2,500years and is becoming more and more popular among domestic and foreign music lovers because of its besutiful sound and abundant expression. After Reforms and Open Policy, Chinese zither has entered classrooms and the musical educators started the research and exploration of the system of teaching Chinese zither. Nowadays, there are two systems of teaching-teaching in professional institutions and teaching in normal colleges. Because normal colleges are to cultivate elementary music educators who teach music in primary schools, improving the quality of teaching Chinese zither is so important. Besides, a few of the graduators of normal colleges will enter professional team. Should we adopt the same way of teaching according to these two different situations? How to make the proper teaching program for each and are there any new requirements for teachers? Should teachers in normal colleges take part in more group activities of teaching practice of basic education? This essay analysed the present situation of teaching Chinese zither in normal colleges according to her own teaching experience. In order to improve the quality of teaching, the writer proposed new ideas of revolution in teaching Chinese zither in normal colleges in teaching aims, teaching contents, teaching methods and means, and teaching assessment.
