Language is the carrier of culture. It is our most important human communication tool. In recent years, with the improvement of China’s international status, Chinese is favorable in the world and it has set off acraze for learning Chinese. Appellation is an important part of language, it plays an important role ininterpersonal communication. Proper use of appellations can narrow the distance between the two sides andmake communication smoother. However,it can make people feel embarrassed and even hinder normalcommunications without proper appellations. Due to the complexity of the Chinese appellations system, appellation teaching is one of the difficulties that teachers and students must face in teaching Chinese as aforeign language(TCFL).Based on the results of previous studies, this paper will first introduce the causes and significance ofcurrent research. It will then discusse the definition of Chinese appellations, classification and how cultureand the current situation of the TCFL impacts learning. Using the form of questionnaires, I created asurvey on the foreign students at Henan University and analyze the learning and usage of Chineseappellations, to find the bias that appeared when using Chinese appellations, and analyze the reason of biasfrom a theoretical point. On this basis, some specific teaching suggestions and strategies were given tothe Chinese appellations teaching and specific guidance was provided for the current method of TCFL.Finally, a summary of the full text, pointed out the limitations of this study, and the prospects of theresearch topics were discussed.
