Appellation as one of the important parts of the language is an important andindispensable tool for written expression and interpersonal communication.Appellation plays an essential role in verbal communication. For students abroad,learning Chinese appellation has been one of the difficulties, which can’t be avoidedIn the process of learning Chinese vocabulary. If the students abroad who can masterthe correct usage rules of Chinese appellation during the time living and studying inChina, it not only reflects his deeply understanding of the Chinese culture, but alsonarrow the distance between each other in conversations, making sure that thecommunication will be carried out smoothly. Instead, the misuse of Chineseappellation may cause both sides of the communication into socially communicativedifficulties, affecting the express of information and the effect of communication. Tosome degree, it may also reduce student’s confidence in learning and using Chinese,affecting their enthusiasm of actively participating in daily communication.For these reasons, I think it is quite necessary to establish the systematic andcomplete system in teaching Chinese appellation. In this paper, I collect the mistakeswhile foreign students understanding the appellation of relatives and using of thesocial appellation through the method of the questionnaire. Combined with the specialidentity of foreign students who learning Chinese, and on the basis of existingontology researches on Chinese appellation, I will make a detailed analysis of thepractical problems which are produced during foreign students learning and usingChinese appellation. The analysis will be conducted from the aspects of thedeficiencies of Chinese appellation, the negative transfer of native language, culturaldifferences, the lack of teaching and teaching material, the interference of learningstrategies and the influence of the learning environment. According to the reasons ofthe foreign students’ mistakes, we need to make Chinese appellation learning strategies for students abroad pertinently. Writing a detailed teaching design as anexample, combined with the theoretical knowledge and the teaching practice, in orderto make the theories operable and provide referential suggestions to the teaching ofChinese appellation for students abroad.When we teach foreign students of Chinese appellation, we should always adhereto the principle of combining teaching and practice. Foreign students should practiceChinese appellation on the basis of learning and look for weaknesses after practicing.The purpose of learning Chinese appellation is to make use of it. Correctly andproperly using of the Chinese appellation will promote the communication smoothlyand effectively in the daily interpersonal communication. The meaning and the usagerules of Chinese appellation is changing and developing. The mistakes taken byforeign students are presenting different feature along with the development of theTimes and the progress of the society. It requires Chinese teachers to focus on theChinese appellation, paying attention to the mistakes and the difficulties during thelearning of it. Every Chinese teacher should also seek for the corresponding teachingcontents and methods actively. In order to help foreign students grasp the languagehabits of Chinese people and master the native Chinese communication skills.
