Foreignization Strategy Adopted In C-E Interpreting

In the era of political multi-polarization,economic globalization and cultural pluralism,China's comprehensive national strength has increased remarkably,its international status has improved unprecedentedly.Against this backdrop,translating expressions that bear Chinese cultural connotation plays a great role in showing a positive image of China to the world,promoting Chinese traditional culture and advancing cultural exchanges and integration among Chinese and Western cultures.Due to the linguistic and cultural differences,that how to deal with the Chinese expressions that carry cultural connotation at international events has been a heated debate for years.Consequently,there are two strategies supported by the translation community: domestication and foreignization.Serving as a bridge that connects China and the West,interpreting strategies adopted in the process of cross-cultural communication will not only determine the interpreting quality but exert influence on culture output.Therefore,based on the foreignization strategy adopted by Venuti and domestication by Eugene Nida,this study that takes the cultural-loaded expressions in President Xi Jinping 's speeches as research objects analyzes the two strategies in the process of interpreting Chinese classical poetry,idioms and Chinese stylistic expressions.Covering four parts,namely literature review,theoretical support,case study and conclusion,this study finds that the adoption of foreignization strategy to interpret cultural-loaded expressions is rational and feasible.Though interpreting foreignization can keep the uniqueness of source language(SL),which is conducive to the output of Chinese culture and cultural exchanges,it has demerits and limitation.Excessively adopting foreignization in the process of interpreting leads to obscurity,unintelligibility and failure of fluent communication.So it is suggested that interpreters should adopt the domestication strategy that is highly complementary in interpreting culture-loaded expressions.
