Since China joined in the WTO, with the reform and opening-up policy deepening in economic and political fields from1980s, China’s international reputation has been raised and its influence enlarged. It caused a result that the economic, cultural and political communication between China and other countries in the world had been significantly raised. In the nowadays, more and more international meetings and activities are held in China, and it becomes natural that more and more international and local press conferences on kinds of subjects have been held. As a result, it raises the need for the qualifications of interpreters; at the same time, it gives a new studying area for interpreting research. Consecutive interpreting of diplomatic conferences, with the special factors of the political, economical, cultural and situational influences, has its own uniqueness. Paying attention to this field, this thesis mainly researches the characteristics of consecutive interpreting in diplomatic conferences and the strategies of interpreting with interpretive theory.Domestication refers to such a kind of translation strategy that brings the foreign cultures closely to the readers in the target culture, making the text familiar and recognizable. This thesis analyses the advantages and disadvantages of domestication strategies when handling with culture-loaded words with examples. The domestication strategy makes the target text more comprehensible, but it may perhaps lead to cultural loss. Firstly, the domestication strategy helps the target texts easier to be understood. On this basis, this thesis continues to discuss the unique features of interpreting, namely the instantaneity and immediacy. This thesis insists that only by using the domesticating strategy can the interpreters ensure the successful and smooth cross cultural communications during very short time. Meanwhile, this thesis attempts to analyze the applicability of the domestication strategy with examples. And when adopting the domestication strategy, through comparing two cultures, people can learn from other cultures instead of accepting them in a unidirectional way. The last chapter brings forward the drawbacks existing in this thesis and this thesis is written with the purpose that more and more importance could be attached to this topic and more experienced scholars could have further discussion and study on it.
