| The author participated in the Thailand Promotion and Investment Opportunities Seminar which was held on September 17th 2014 in the eleventh China-ASEAN Expo. This report includes three parts:pre-interpreting preparation, case analysis and practice summary.This practice report on consecutive interpreting includes three parts. The first part is the introduction. The introduction presents background information of Thailand Promotion and Investment Opportunities Seminar and task description. The second part introduces the pre-interpreting preparation which includes long-term and short-term preparation. Long-term preparation covers the language proficiency and humanistic quality, which include the interpreting skills from the sourcing language to the targeting language and the understanding of Chinese and English culture, physical and psychological health, and the interpreters’professional ethics. Short-term preparation refers to background information about speakers and preparations about speeches before the seminar. Short-term preparation also includes on-site preparation. In the third part, the case studies from this consecutive interpreting task are analyzed to present the interpreting skills, which include analysis of interpreting skills of restructuring, logical reorganization, semantic interpretation, note-taking of numbers, interpretation of null subject sentences, responses to emergencies and redundancy. The French interpreting theorist Danica Seleskovitch’s Interpretative Theory of Translation is applied in these case studies. The fourth part is the conclusion of this consecutive interpretation.This report is based on the Thailand Promotion and Investment Opportunities Seminar held on September 17th2014 in the eleventh China-ASEAN Expo. The author sincerely hopes this report will be a reference for the other interpreters in the researches and practices of the interpretations in the future. |
