A Report On Translation Of English Sales Contracts

Sales contracts share textual features of both financial and legal texts. Translators tend to regard it as a high job that they should transmit full information from the source text to readers and keep its language style in the process.The thesis makes an in-depth analysis of English translations of two standard sales contracts. On the basis of translation theories, the two contracts are used as the material to conduct surveys on writing characteristics as well as translation strategies of sales contracts. First of all, the translation of the contracts helps the translator get a better understanding of the content and linguistic features of English sales contracts. Secondly, through an analysis of methods to translate various phrases and sentence patterns, the translator has developed his translation capabilities and summarized the corresponding translation principles applicable to sales contracts. Thirdly, with the support of professional business knowledge and appropriate translation principles, the translator polishes his translated works by using a variety of relevant strategies, such as semantic alternation and amplification, to produce coherent and acceptable texts. Finally, the thesis reviews the whole translating and proofreading processes and points out some limitations.
