A Report On The E-C Translation Of Long Sentences In English Sales Contracts

With the development of globalization and regional economic integration,economic exchanges between China and other countries have become more frequent and international business activities involved vary.The execution of all international business activities requires the signing of contracts and the writing of legal instruments,so the accurate translation of English business contracts is increasingly important in promoting China's economic development.Long sentences can be frequently found in English sales contracts.Because of differences in thoughts and grammatical patterns in English and Chinese languages,the translation of long English sentences is commonly regarded as a difficult point in translating English sales contracts.To put long English sentences into Chinese accurately and effectively often plays a decisive role in the business cooperation between China and other countries.This report is based on the translation practice of Product Sales Contract,Elevator Equipment Purchase Contract,Commodity House Sales Contract,and Agreement of Purchase and Transfer of Bank Guarantee in order to study and analyze the translation strategies of long sentences appearing in these English sales contracts.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark's Semantic Translation,long sentences in these contracts can be translated through the application of Linear Translation,Hysteron-proteron,Division and Synthesis.This translation practice report aims at providing reference for the translation of long sentences in English sales contracts in the future.
