An E-C Translation Report On Copper Concentrate Sales Contracts

This is an English-Chinese translation report.The source text is two import contracts of copper concentrate translated by the author in the course of his internship in a foreign trade company.The “Belt and Road” initiative put forward by China has received positive responses from a mounting number of countries and regions in the world.With the rapid development of international trade in China,the translation of foreign trade contract becomes more and more important.The report first describes the background and significance of the translation project and the structure of the translation report,then analyzes the features of the selected text,and introduces the translation tools and process briefly.The two import contracts of copper concentrate in the translation contain a number of foreign trade terms and legal terms,and often use long and complex sentences.Therefore,it is difficult to understand and translate.The translator classifies the difficulties encountered in the process of translating into two levels.At the lexical level,there are polysemy,technical terms and changes of parts of speech.At the syntactic level,sentences with passive voices and long and complex sentences bring great challenges for the translator.The author adopts some specific methods to solve these difficulties:(1)diction,semantic translation,conversion of parts of speech and(2)shift of voice,amplification,following the original syntactic order and reinventing the sentence structure.The report also summarizes the experience gained by the translator in the translation and the limitations of this report.The author looks forward to more researches on the translation of business and legal English from other perspectives.
