News Translation Practice

The Economist is a time-honored and world-renowned English journal, whichhas extensive and profound influence in the international political circle. TheEconomist has an inventive mind in the reports of Syria issue, but there is fewChinese translation version of these reports. This will inevitably impede the domesticpeople to have a better knowledge of the West’s attitude on Syria issue. This thesistranslates13articles about Syria issue published by the Economist and does study onthe translating difficulties, methods and techniques.After giving a brief introduction to the background and reviewing relevantliterature, this thesis does text analysis on the13articles from the aspects of words,sentences, discourse, culture and ideology. Then the thesis conducts furtherinvestigations of the translating difficulties. This thesis holds the view that translatorshould use different translating methods such as literal translation, free translation,adaptation and different translating techniques such as splitting, assembling,transformation, emission, amplification when doing the news translation. Meanwhilethe translator should pay great attention to the accurate translating of terms, fullyintroduction of culture background and appropriate expression of the ideology. Thenthe translation can be vivid and true to the original.
