Bellyband is a ribbon printing, one of the optional parts of book binding, which isaround book cover, so it is also called "book waist" or "book tape". With theexpansion of book market and the innovation of book design, combining the form, thegraph, the word, the font, the color and other information together, bellybandtakespart of the highlight of book design. In addition, in order to protect book cover inthe course of carriage, most of new books will be packaged by the transport plasticswhich make the viewers cannot open the book and read the content. Therefore,bellyband not only attracts the attention of the readers, but also assists in the exchangeof information, getting the good effect on sales.As a kind of media advertising for books, bellyband is emphasized its commercialproperty excessively, which creates a lot of problems for book design. The writerwants to analyze the background and the current situation of bellyband, proposing thesignificance and purpose of this topic research, meanwhile takes some specialexamples and combines the author’s own experience and feeling to state thecharacteristics and elements of bellyband design. Furthermore discussing the relationsbetween bellyband design and book design, coming up with the idea of how todevelop and use the bellyband design diversely in this new era. The specialcharacteristics of bellyband makes its own have a good development prospect withbeing a cheap but good advertisement carrier.
