Abstract: As a part of the graphic design, the poster plays a decisive role in the field ofvisual communication design. In this paper, against the domestic situation of the poster design,such as designers’ conservative thinking, lack of innovative ideas and innovative methods,theauthor comes up with the innovative ideas and methods. Excellent graphic design has thecharacteristics of transmitting information quickly, being identified and remembered easily.The designers should master certain design principles, methods and tools. They combine thetraditional culture and the characteristics of the times, give full play to the initiative, use theprinciples of visual perception and the visual art language performance skills properly.First of all, painting performance language and the poster graphic design has a naturalrelationship. The beauty of form and meaning performs the “ink beauty” of Chinese paintinglanguage, the “marks beauty” of prints language, the “color beauty, texture beauty” of oilpainting, the “simple beauty” of sketch language. Second, painting performance language is asource of the poster graphic design. Painting can improve the performance of language artsposter advertising graphic expression. Third, they are able to enhance the artistic and aestheticof poster graphic design. We can combine the painting language elements and the postergraphic language elements perfectly, exert the national and local culture, create the artisticlanguage which has the features of the internationalization and localization. Finally, the posterdesign not only achieves social functional requirements but also reflects the essentialcharacteristics of art. To inherit the traditional culture, promote innovation provides a newform of visual language.The first part analyzes current research, the purpose and the significance of the study, themain problems which exist in the current poster graphic design and propose the solutions. Thesecond part analyzes the main elements of the poster, layout design principles and proceduresthe principles. The third part studies the role of language in painting performance postergraphic design. It is explained in two aspects of visual aesthetic and visual expression whichenhance the poster graphics. The fourth part describes the application of the paintingperformance language. The fifth part introduces the use and practice of the paintingperformance language in the poster graphic design.
