Report On English-to-Chinese Translation Of Greenways For America

With the speeding up of globalization and the further deepening of the communication between Chinese and western culture, the translation of travelling writings plays an increasingly important role in intercultural communication. In this thesis, the author analyses the translation of The Greenways for America. The ST is distinctive for the terms with noticing connotations and long and inverted sentences with unusual use of punctuations.In order to make the TT be faithful to the ST in contextual meaning and readily comprehensible to the target readers, we aim to make the TT an communicative translation, which has been achieved by a variety of translation procedures such as adding, adaptation, annotation, free translation, In this process, the translator plays a dominant role in explaining the writer’s intention, restructuring the words and sentences, instead of making a word-for-word transference of the original text. In my view, travels writings has its unique stylistic characteristics, translator should show more respect to the original text, take different methods to maximize the communicative purpose of the translation.Although encountered with lots of difficulties and challenges, the author completed the translation task successfully on time and gained a deeper understanding of the nature of translation.
