Xi’an City Image Identification Logo Design

With the formation of global economic integration, China’s city construction hasgot a rapid development. While a city’s development not only contains some hardwareparts such as the infrastructure construction and key projects, but also includes someother software requirements on city culture and city characteristics. And the creating ofthe city image, as one of the software requirements, is an important work.The author thinks that the designing and promotion of city image logo, as animportant means of urban image creation, plays an important role in a city’s sustainabledevelopment. Based on the detailed introduction of city image and city image logo，thisarticle summarized the specific reasons for the original logo of Xi’an not gettingpopularization and application, though a comprehensive investigation to the currentsituation of the symbols of Xi ’an city. And tried to explore the intrinsic determinant ofXi’an city culture temperament though the research and analysis on the historical andcultural context of Xi’an, further defined the Xi ’an urban image positioning regardingthe construction of international metropolis as the main city developing target, makingthe humanities, green, science and technology, fashion, harmony as the main citycharacteristics. Through a series of carding and screening, the author finally determinedthat using the city walls as the representative of the xi ’an city image. And in the actualdesign process, with blue bricks of the city walls as a design element, the authorcompleted a set of mature city’s image identification system，including logo, fonts,graphics and the application examples.The article fully demonstrates the subject’s background, contents, methods,significance, and achievements though its analysis and designing，which can provide areference on the visual image design for the international metropolis construction ofXi’an. We can continue to use the original emblem, and the new designed city logo issuggested to be applied in Xi’an tourism image promotion, foreign exchange and othereconomic activities. Our logo designing ideas of Xi’an city image identification in this article, is theresult of a well-reasoned and thinking, which having a certain reference value for theresearch on related topic, can make our government pay more attention to Xi’an cityvisual image creation and promotion. However, we have to admit that our designingideas still need to wait for the inspection in the process of practical application. And wereally hope that our designing results could get enough social recognition, andultimately play an important role in the process of our city’s development.
