This report is based on the translation practice of the second chapter in the book The Emotions by the British writer Peter Goldie. This part mainly describes that the differences between emotion and emotional experience, what the intentionality of the emotions is,the thoughts which can be involved in an emotion and the attack on the over-intellectualization of emotion. In the process of this translation practice,a large number of complicated long sentences used in the text are found, which is the key feature, but also the main difficulty of translating this book.Complicated long sentences contain rich vocabularies, complex structures and hidden information,so how to translate complicated long sentences well is crucial. In order to make the target text deliver the accurate information of the original text without losing unique style, the Functional Equivalence Theory is selected as the guidance to meet the reading habit and interest.Nida describes the dynamic equivalence of translation as that the translation is to find the closest natural equivalent with the original information in the target language. Therefore,in the translation practice of The Emotions, the translator flexibly uses various translation strategies to keep the expression style of the original language and pay attention to the reader's response to the translation. The translation report introduces the current translation study of complicated long sentences, the difficulties to be solved in the translation practice as well as the purpose and significance of this translation practice. The translator makes a detailed introduction to the author and the writing background, analyzing the characteristics and the difficulties of translating, and giving a brief description of the Functional Equivalence Theory.Nida thinks that the translation should deliver both surface vocabulary information and the deep culture information. The translator also makes a lot of preparation for translation, and during the translation process, the difficulties faced in translating are successfully solved, and the translator also does proofreading after translation. The core of this practice report is the analysis of the specificexamples.Under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence Theory, the translator analyzes and concludes the specific case by conversion method, amplification method, sentence division method and recasting method. At last, the translator makes a conclusion of the unsolved problems in the process of translating.Meanwhile, the lessons learned from the translation practice and the inspiration for the future study are also briefly concluded.
