This translation report is based on the translation of the chapter IV in The Status of the Translation Profession in the European Union. This book elaborates the historical track and the law of development of translation profession in European Union. Chapter IV is entitled by “Sociology Modeling”. The source text expounds the process of professionalization of translation from the perspective of sociology, which presents the models of professionalization by using trait theory and the theory of control. A series of social problems that translation profession in EU encountered before are deeply analyzed in this chapter. As an emerging profession at the stage of exploration, Chinese translation profession still has a long way to go. This translation project is expected to help Chinese translation practitioners draw inferences, and comprehend the causes and mechanism of present problems.The source text is an academic text of social science. The logical thinking and the analysis of cases, which are used to express and analyze the theories and practice problems, are the main characteristics of the source text. The language is rigorous and precise. However, intuitive thinking, imagery thinking and rhetoric techniques are also utilized in the text. This translation report consists of four parts. Chapter One is background and the significance of the translation project. Chapter Two is analysis of the source text. Chapter Three covers the translation theories which guide this translation project and the translation methods used to tackle translation problems. Chapter Four is a conclusion of the translation project.
