The Collection And Study On Chinese Folk Characters In Kangxi Zidian(康熙字典)

Kangxi Zidian(康熙字典)is a reference book firstly titled as Zidian(字典)in China. It has been a significant milestone in the long history of the development of Chinese dictionary. It has been famous as a comprehensive collection of reference books after Shuowen Jiezi(说文解字),Yupian(玉篇)since its publication. Meanwhile, it has also formed the foundation of the compilation of large dictionary in modern sense.The reference book is also famous as a comprehensive collection of Chinese folk characters, providing abundant of corpora to study the Chinese folk characters.To summarize the identified Chinese folk characters’sources, give the unidentified Chinese folk characters’sources and explore its generation, this thesis builds a Chinese folk character table by systematically extracting the scattered Chinese folk characters from this dictionary. Based on the table, according to whether has identified the sources, this thesis first categorizes the sources of the identified Chinese folk characters, and then identify the unidentified Chinese folk characters. Once again, this thesis tries to conclude the generation of these Chinese folk characters in terms of strcture of Chinese character. This thesis consists of five sections as follows:Section One is exordium, which introduces the overview of Kangxi Zidian, current research status and existing research area of this dictionary and the research methods of the thesis.Section Two is the collections of the identified Chinese folk characters in the Kangxi Zidian. Those Chinese folk characters are maily collected from every classic works before the dictionary. According to the type of the sources, this chapter categorizes the Chinese folk characters in detail again. And then, make a conclusion about it.Section Three is the identification of the unidentified Chinese folk characters in the Kangxi Zidian. This chapter first categorizes the sources of the identified Chinese folk characters and then give the identification of them. And then, make a conclusion about it.Section Four is the analysis of the Chinese folk characters in Kangxi Zidian, which analyzes the structure of the collected Chinese folk characters and its corresponding standard characters in terms of stokes and components. Based on the analysis, the generation of these Chinese folk characters mainly consists of shifting, replacing, adding, reducing and entire structure replacing of stokes and components.Section Five is the conclusions of the thesis, which are about the features of the sources and generation of the Chinese folk characters in Kangxi Zidian. And further reveals the research value of this thesis in the following aspects:systematically summarizing and showing the collected Chinese folk character corpora, exploring the general rules of the generation of the Chinese folk characters by comparatively analyzing the collected Chinese folk characters and the standard characters.
