Preparation plays a vital role in the process of interpretation Effective pre-interpreting preparation helps interpreters in terms of acquiring terms and subject knowledge in related fields,thereby improving the interpreting quality.At present,most interpreters still adopt the traditional preparation method,and some have begun to use corpus tools to assist their preparation.There is still no conclusion as to which preparation method is more helpful to improve the interpretation quality.Therefore,this thesis aims to compare the effects of two pre-interpreting preparation methods on the quality of interpretation in English-Chinese consecutive interpreting through experiments and surveys,explore the advantages and disadvantages of the two preparation modes,and help interpreters improve the efficiency and effectiveness of pre-task preparation.Through One-way ANOVA tests and surveys,the author found that different modes of preparation have a certain correlation with the interpretation performance.Compared with the traditional preparation mode,the corpus-assisted preparation mode can improve participants’ overall interpreting quality,narrow the scope of preparation for interpreters in a limited time,and help interpreters quickly acquire the subject knowledge that suits the content.However,there are also disadvantages such as relatively high technical thresholds and excessively broad web content extraction.Based on the results of this study and interviews,the author proposes the following suggestions for improving the preparation efficiency of student interpreters for English-Chinese consecutive interpreting:(1)Enhance the awareness of taking corpus as a helper in preparation,and master the basic skills of using corpus tools;(2)Combine traditional and corpus-aided methods to form an efficient preparation mode with personal characteristics.It is hoped that this study can provide some inspiration for student interpreters to improve the efficiency of pre-task preparation and improve the quality of interpretation.But at the same time,this study also has its limitations,and it needs tobe further improved in future studies in terms of sample size,interpreting quality evaluation indicators,and the control of experimental variables.
