The original text of the translation study is excerpted from The Cambridge History of Africa whose series of books were published by Cambridge University Press in 1986. The Cambridge History of Africa covers African history from anthropogenesis to 1975. At present, the book has not been translated into Chinese, yetDeeply understanding with the translated operation of history works during the process of translation, the author aims to provide some theoretical enlightenment and the method instruction for the non-literary translation practice research through the research of this translated project. After study and summary, the author chased down the similarities and differences from the reading of parallel samples and put them into comparative research. Proceed to the next step, the author discovers the universality and particularity of this kind of translated operation. In the study of translated process, the research mainly included preparation before translation, mid-term revision, finalization, translation proofreading and evaluation of translation effect. During the research of translation action, the author selects the functional equivalence theory to guide the practice and discussed the nonidentity in the of history works through vocabulary equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence theory. After analyses of the guide theory the method to solve the problem was found. On translation skills, the author selected amplification, literal translation, free translation and domestication skills to improve the defects of the translation in reading habits of readers, semantic understanding and diction through combining with the characteristics of the expert material. At last, the author analyses the specific cases by using the case analysis method under the guidance of functional equivalence, and makes a summary to this research of translation practice.
