The report is based on the consecutive interpreting of a traditional Chinese wedding. The recording of the whole wedding ceremony serves as the source text. The report analyzes the interpreting strategies adopted in this task from the perspective of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory. It also aims to test the practicability of Functional Equivalence Theory with case analyses from the interpretation.The report consists of five chapters. Chapter One is the task description which introduces the background and preparation of the consecutive interpreting. Chapter Two describes various problems and corresponding solutions in the task. Chapter Three expounds the essentials of Functional Equivalence Theory and its four evaluating criteria. Chapter Four makes case analyses of specific interpreting strategies adopted in the task at lexical level and syntactic level. Chapter Five is conclusion, summarizing the significance and suggestions of the interpreting practice.
