In this paper, through the analysis of 295 words in Developing Chinese intermediate Comprehensive Course, classifying the structure of Chinese characters and counting initial meaning in accordance with Analytical Dictionary of Characters. At the same time, discussing the Chinese characters using in the textbook is the original or extended or borrowed meaning. Aimed at the perspective of meaning, put forward the corresponding suggestions on the teaching of foreign Chinese characters. Chinese characters are ideographic characters, this is because pictogram is meaningful, which is the foundation of Chinese characters. Self-explanatory characters、associative characters and phonogram are derived of pictogram. There is a necessary connection between the shape and the meaning of Chinese characters, it is feasible to put forward some teaching suggestion through the analysis of the meaning of words from the perspective of the Chinese characters.The main parts of this paper are as follows:The first part discusses the research significance, the related research results and research methods.The second part classifying the structure of Chinese characters structure and analysising original meaning of words in accordance with Analytical Dictionary of Characters. In order to facilitate the analysis, this chapter is divided 295 characters into pictogram, associative characters and phonogram. According to statistics, pictogram account for 78%.The third part analysising the extended or borrowed meaning used in the textbook. According to the results, the extended or borrowed meaning account for 62%.The fourth part combined with the statistical results and analysis of the above, puting forward the corresponding teaching suggestions.Through the analysis of the above chapters, we can see that in the Developing Chinese Intermediate Comprehensive Course using extended or borrowed meaning more than the original meaning. Therefore, when we teach Chinese characters should adopt different teaching strategies, active atmosphere, enhance the teaching efficiency.
