As a variety of English, English for Science and Technology (EST) is evolved from general English and used in scientific and technological fields. It is distinctive in stylistics, lexicon and structure, in which it strikingly differs from other types of English.Related to urban infrastructure planning, this thesis is based on a report for the Chinese translation of three kinds of English documents:the first one is Streets as Public Space and Drivers of Urban Prosperity, the second one Urban Planning for City Leaders; and the third one a combination of infrastructure planning documents. The three documents are of the EST type, therefore, their Chinese translation requires a good analysis of stylistic characteristics and proper handling of the style. This thesis, a report for the whole process of translation including analysis of the source texts and handling of good examples, attempts to give an overall summary of the Chinese translation of the EST, hoping that this study can offer some hints for the EST translators in terms of using translation techniques and bringing into full play the spirit of team work in doing EST translation. The thesis consists of six chapters. Chapter One is a general introduction about EST translation background and the structure of the thesis. Chapter Two is the description of the translation task, specifying the source text and the translation requirements. Chapter Three addresses the issue of translation task, making clear the function and purpose of this translation task, the way in which EST should be handled well as well as the translation procedures. Chapter Five is the summary of the whole translation task, providing some opinions for those who hope to be translators on the necessity of acquiring professional knowledge, knowing the language database and cultivating the team work spirit. Chapter Six is a conclusion, summarizing the whole thesis and explaining what can be got from such a translation task.
