With the raise of China’s international status, the Chinese language is becoming increasingly important in the world. Since the establishment of the North Ireland’s first Confucius College in Ulster University in Northern Ireland, a heat of Chinese learning has developed rapidly in this country. As the Irish students are a new Chinese learning group, it is of necessity to have a careful investigation and analysis of their Oral Chinese learning methods. This article is an investigation about The North Irish university students Oral Chinese learning methods from the perspectives of psychological linguistics, pedagogy, second language acquisition, cognitive linguistics with the research instruments of questionnaire, interview, classroom observation for the purpose of finding out the differences and uniqueness of their Oral Chinese learning methods.This thesis is divided into four chapters:The reason of the topic, the intention and meaning of the research and the summarization of relevant results at home were introduced, the paper has sorted out the concepts method carefully, and compared them with the definitions of learning method, and the learning strategy and method of measurement of the second language speaking was introduced in Chapter 1.Chapter 2 was based on the investigation of firsthand materials. Firstly, it has analysis of the students ’motivations of learning Oral Chinese. Secondly based on an analysis of questionnaire, the interview of students, we have a comprehensive analysis of their learning methods.This is very important in the area of oral teaching of Chinese as a second language, after teachers understand the learner’ methods, they can use different teaching methods in the classroom so that they can train the learners to have the effective learning strategies and can improve the Chinese Oral ability of the learners.Chapter 3 was detailed analysis of each segment of these research top 3results. This article is an investigation about the learning method from the perspectives of psychological linguistics, pedagogy, second language acquisition, cognitive linguistics, so that to know why these learning methods popular among students.Chapter 4 was the summary and suggestion.This thesis mainly used the methods of survey questionnaires, interview and observation, in the method survey questionnaires; the author investigated the application of learning method for Oral Chinese by North Irish student and the basis information of interviewee. After that, the author made a statistical analysis on the investigation date by using the SPSS software.then, combined with the specific methods for specific analysis. So far, the field of Chinese as foreign language has not seen any previous researches related to the North Irish students’ Chinese learning method. This paper attempts to establish a complete research and framework about the research of their learning methods, and it might provide some guidance for Chinese Language teaching in Northern Ireland.In a sense; this research is a bold attempt in this field.
